_Simmba_ has sealed the unmatched power of Ranveer Singh and Rohit Shetty as an actor-director duo. While Ranveer’s indomitable energy is hard to curtail for most directors, Rohit Shetty’s Simmba gave him the perfect canvas to go all out. The box office figures prove that Shetty’s eighth consecutive film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark has indeed connected with audiences across the board. Simmba also featured Sara Ali Khan in the lead.

But the year has as much been about big budget Rs 100 crore grossers, particularly those starring Ranveer. The year began with Ranveer-Deepika Paduone-starrer magnum opus, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat , and is almost lyrically ending with another Singh blockbuster in Simmba. There were several other entertainers that made it to the Rs 100 crore club in 2018, the year that saw the maximum entrants. Stree is worth mentioning for many firsts, especially since the genre of horror comedies had not been tapped into properly within in the country. A sleeper hit of 2018, the Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer earned almost Rs 125 crore with a budget of Rs 24 crore, as per reports. The films that passed owing to sheer star power were not the best scripts. _Race 3_ and _Thugs of Hindostan_ were such films, which despite being dissected by most critics, managed to join the Rs 100 crore club. But it would be worthy to note that the films may have not made enough money despite such huge figures, owing to the production costs behind such mammoth projects. Rajkumar Hirani’s offering of actor Sanjay Dutt’s life was another expectant entrant in the list. Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in _Sanju_ was debated upon and the white-washing of incidents occurred also criticised, yet that did not seem to affect the box office collection, which reportedly stood at Rs 334 crore.
