Shobhaa De tweets a pun to the Mumbai Police, they respond with a stern message

Columnist, author and infamous Twitter celebrity Shobhaa De made a gaff on Twitter, yet again.

De posted a picture of a hefty policeman sitting on a chair with the tag line ‘Heavy police Bandobast in Mumbai today!’ The ‘Bandobast’ was in reference to the BMC elections happening in Mumbai on 21 February 2017.

Not only did the tweet go viral a few mins after she put it out, many Twitter users also called her out on her fat shamming. Though, she had not tagged Mumbai police in the post, she received a reply from them which said, ‘We love puns too Ms De but this one is totally misplaced. Uniform/official not ours. We expect better from responsible citizens like you.’

The Mumbai Police’s twitter account is known for making fun puns.

This is not the first time the famous columnist has put her foot in her mouth. She had tried to advice Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj to ’tweet less’, which had left many upset with some suggesting Ms De to follow the same ‘resolution.’ In August last year she tweeted about the Rio Olympics.

“Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio jao, selfies lo, khaali haat wapas aao (Go to Rio, click selfies, return home empty handed). What a waste of money and opportunity,” she wrote. De was heavily trolled on Twitter for the same.
