Scorsese's 'Silence' to Coen Brothers' 'Hail, Caesar!': Hollywood movies to look out for in 2016

From Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Mad Max: Fury Road, 2015 was nothing short of a spectacle when it came to the silver screen. Ridley Scott made a comeback, while Quentin Tarantino, Denis Villeneuve and Alejandro González Iñárritu maintained a fine form. And there, of course, were some pleasant surprises like Slow West and Ex Machina. And 2016 holds much promise too. From Martin Scorsese to Ang Lee, some of the best in the business are lined up for releases. And although we are sure there will be plenty more, here are some movies you should look out for: Silence [caption id=“attachment_2568874” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] Image courtesy: @Phi_Films/Twitter[/caption] After 2013’s Wolf of Wall Street, Martin Scorsese returns to the big screen with a project as different as one could possibly imagine. Silence tells the story of two Jesuit priests who face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and propagate Christianity in the seventeenth century. Based on a novel by the same name by Japanese author Shūsaku Endō, the film stars Liam Neeson, Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield. Hail, Caesar! Our favorite Hollywood duo bring you Hollywood itself like you have never seen before, quite literally. Set in the Golden Age of the industry, Coen Brothers’ latest follows a studio fixer “whose crazy day gets a whole lot crazier when a movie star gets abducted.” The star-studded cast include Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Alden Ehrenreich, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Frances McDormand.

Everybody Wants Some In what is being deemed as the spiritual squeal to 1993’s Dazed and Confused, Richerd Linklater’s latest follows a group of college baseball players as they navigate their way through the 1980s.

Director Damien Chazelle is all set to release his second feature film this year starring Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling and JK Simmons. Although set in contemporary Los Angles, La La Land is said to be an “old-fashioned” musical, where Gosling plays a jazz pianist and Stone an aspiring actress. Story of Your Life [caption id=“attachment_2568880” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] Reuters[/caption] Denis Villeneuve has been on a roll for a while now. After Prisoners, Enemy and 2015’s Sicario, he is all set to direct the follow up to 1982’s Blade Runner. But before Blade Runner, there will be Story of Your Life, a science fiction starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and some aliens. After 2013’s Enemy, we are pretty exited to see how Villeneuve will tackle this sci-fi. Midnight Special comes out in March, Loving in September. While Midnight Special is a science fiction drama, Loving tells a story of an interracial couple, are sentenced to prison in Virginia in 1958 for getting married. Both films feature Nichols’ long time collaborator, Michael Shannon. Ghostbusters [caption id=“attachment_2568884” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] Image courtesy: @CBR/Twitter[/caption] More than 30 years after the original came out, Hollywood is set for anther round of Ghostbusters. But unlike last time, the upcoming movie features an all-female cast of Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig. Directed by Paul Figg, the movie will also feature Chris Hemsworth, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver and Dan Aykroyd. Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk [caption id=“attachment_2568886” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] Reuters[/caption] Two time Academy Award winner Ang Lee is also all set to release his next this year. Based on Ben Fountain’s 2012 book by the same name, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk tells the story of an infantryman who “recounts the final hours before he and his fellow soldiers return to Iraq.” The film will star Steve Martin, Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Vin Diesel and Chris Tucker. Finding Dory One of the most awaited animated squeals will hit the big screens in June this year. The film, which will take place after six months of the events of Finding Nemo, will focus on Dory’s amnesiac character as she tries to reunite with her family.

Untitled Bourne Sequel [caption id=“attachment_2568888” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] Reuters[/caption] Not much is known about the project so far, apart the fact that Matt Damon will return to play Jason Bourne’s character with Paul Greengrass back behind the camera once again for the franchise. But after the ill-conceived Bourne Legacy, this is enough to get us exited. The Witch If movie trailer is in any way reflection of the actual movie, The Witch will be a scary one. Set in 1630s New England, the movie follows a family is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic and possession.
