Sara Ali Khan's debut Kedarnath, Kunal Kohli's Telugu directorial Next Enti, Mortal Engines: Know Your Releases

This week, theatres are in for a heavy dose South Indian films while Sara Ali Khan also makes her debut with Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath. Here are the top films that you may want to catch at the theatres. Kedarnath

What it’s about: Set on the 14 km pilgrimage from Gauri Kund to the the 2000-year-old Kedarnath temple of Lord Shiva, the film revolves around the love story of Mansoor and Mukku, which occurs alongside happenings inspired by the 2013 Uttarkhand floods. Who’s in it:  Sushant Singh Rajput, Sara Ali Khan, Nitish Bharadwaj, Alka Amin, Sonali Sachdev, Tarun Gahlot, Mir Sarwar Why it may work: Rajput and Khan’s pairing looks beautiful on-screen and with Sara’s off-screen on-point interviews, she seems to be a promising talent. Amit Trivedi’s soulful tracks are a bonus to ensure and auditory celebration along with the visual extravaganza. Mortal Engines

What it’s about:  Set in a post-apocalyptic steampunk world, centuries after civilization was wiped out after a cataclysmic event, Mortal Engines represents London as a mobile predator city that slices everything that comes under its bladed wheels. Who’s in it: Hera Hilmar, Hugo Weaving, Jihae, Robert Sheehan, Stephen Lang, Leila George, Frankie Adams Why it may work: Sci-fi has always been a big crowd-puller for most. Christian Rivers, Oscar-winning visual effects artist’s debut on the film will also be an element to look out for. What it’s about: An all-out entertainer, Kavacham sees Sreenivas play the role of a police officer. Kavacham also has Neil Nitin Mukesh, Mehreen Pirzada and Harshavardhan Rane in crucial roles. Who’s in it:  Sai Srinivas Bellamkonda, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kajal Aggarwal, Mehreen Pirzada, Harshvardhan Rane Why it may work:  SS Thaman, who recently received praise for Aravinda Sametha, has scored songs for the film. What it’s about: The narrative gives an urban perspective to new-age relationships. Who’s in it: Tamannaah Bhatia, Atul Sharma, Sundeep Kishan, Larissa Bonesi, Navdeep Why it may work: Tamannaah’s portrayal of the modern complicated girl will be a fresh portrayal for most audiences. Kunal Kohli, known to have written strong female characters in films like Fanaa and Hum Tum is directing the feature. His treatment of Tamannaah’s character may make for an interesting watch. What it’s about: The film revolves around an ancient village called Subramanyapuram. It will be a mystery thriller. Who’s in it:  Sumanth, Eesha Rebba, Sai Kumar, Surya, Amit Sharma, Vajja Venkata Giridhar, Bhadram Why it may work: Rebba’s character of the daughter of the village priest seems interesting. The juxtaposition of the highly religious female protagonist with an atheist male counterpart is refreshing.
