Celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani is known for being bold, brash and unconventional.

She’s also known for having scant respect for ‘holy cows’ of any kind, and will speak her mind, no matter the intensity of backlash.

She’s previously tackled the experience of being gangraped in Chicago at the age of 24 — both in Yael Faber’s critically acclaimed play Nirbhaya, and in a viral post for the Facebook page Humans of Bombay.

She’s talked about surviving domestic violence — and people’s perceptions of her, based on nothing more than her penchant for tattoos, tight clothes and riding motorcycles.

Still, Bhavnani is in the news today for some comments she made regarding Salman Khan in a recent interview with Hindustan Times.

The interview is about her upcoming book, Chapter One. This isn’t a work of fiction, but Bhavnani’s memoirs, that are being published by HarperCollins. In the furore over her Salman comments, however, that seems to have been missed.

Bhavnani was specifically asked if she will be writing about Salman (with whom she had a pretty tumultuous equation while she was a contestant in the reality TV show he hosts, Bigg Boss) in Chapter One. To this, she replied: “This man really misuses people and I don’t have to give him any importance.”

Later in the interview, Bhavnani addressed her experiences on Bigg Boss:

“You have a male chauvinistic f***ing pig as a host of this f***ing show, that insults people, so people watch the show, and people worship him on the show because people want a job in one f his stupid f***-all movies where he dances like a monkey — that’s Bigg Boss in a nutshell.”

Bhavnani added that she had been warned not to speak against Salman (after her rather public spat with him on the Bigg Boss show) and that she could be “killed” for making negative remarks about the actor.

A series of Twitter exchanges between Bhavnani and her interviewer seems to indicate that the former didn't expect her comments on Khan to be played up in the published interview, and made the sole focus of what was supposed to be a piece about Chapter One.

Just a few days ago, another former Bigg Boss contestant — Akashdeep Saigal — had also spoken out against Salman Khan, claiming that the Sultan star 'destroyed' his career because of a heated argument on the show's sets.
