Netflix and Aryan Khan’s ‘The Ba***ds Of Bollywood’ is silly, self-deprecating, and sensational in its craft and characters. And because it attempts to show the BTS world of Bollywood, reels were bound to go viral on social media. One scene featuring a parody of former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede made a lot of noise too.
The former NCB officer moved the Delhi High Court over his portrayal in the show. The Delhi HC rejected his plea at first but now it has summoned the members of the Red Chillies production house, namely- Gauri Khan, who owns Red Chillies Entertainment Private Limited, Netflix, X Corp (formerly Twitter), Google LLC, Meta Platforms, RPG Lifestyle Media Private Limited, and John Doe.
And now, the former NCB officer has spoken to NDTV and said, “I am fighting for the honour of the uniform and the law enforcement agencies that are toiling and giving their blood to serve the nation. They cannot be humiliated like that; they cannot be trolled like that. And thirdly, I am fighting for the honour of our national emblem, Satyamev Jayate, which cannot be mocked and made fun of.”
Wankhede added, “People who are serving the nation, all the officers who are in the field, those who are part of anti-drug drives - these things hurt. Satire is a different thing altogether, but humiliating officers who have given blood to the nation, who are fighting against anti-drug activities - when such things happen, officers also feel bad about it.”
What did Sameer Wankhede say in his plea?
In his plea to the Delhi High Court, Sameer Wankhede said the series “disseminates a misleading and negative portrayal of anti-drug enforcement agencies, thereby eroding public confidence in law enforcement institutions.”
The plea adds that the show “deliberately conceptualised and executed with the intent to malign Sameer Wankhede’s reputation in a colourable and prejudicial manner.”
