Sabyasachi Mukherjee has created history by becoming the first Indian designer to walk the Met Gala Red Carpet. He attended the event on 7th May donning a long coat and jewels from Sabyasachi High Jewellery.
The renowned designer shared the pics of his outfit on social media with details as he wrote, “An embroidered cotton duster coat from the Sabyasachi Resort 2024 collection layered with tourmalines, pearls, emeralds, and diamonds from Sabyasachi High Jewellery.”
Several celebs and fans reacted to Sabyasachi’s pics and showered praise on it. Popular filmmaker Zoya Akhtar known for movies like Gully Boy, Dil Dhadakne Do and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara commented, “And I feel so proud to see a man sticking to his beliefs of core Indian fashion intricacies and making it a huge luxury brand for the world. Elite intense lux powerhouse of India (sic).”

For her second appearance, Alia Bhatt was seen in a sheer pastel-coloured sari by Sabyasachi that “pays homage to nature’s beauty, echoing the earth, sky, and sea.”
“We looked to the past as a guide for the future, drawing inspiration from the timeless sophistication of Indian nobility. We focused on intricate craftsmanship, incorporating hand embroidery, and precious stones, along with elegant beadwork and fringes, distinctive of the 1920’s fringe style…It has taken a collective effort of 163 dedicated individuals, including master craftspeople, embroiderers, artists, and dyers, investing a total of 1965 man hours to create this ethereal saree,” the actress wrote on Instagram.
