The Broadway adaptation of The Notebook does not have an opening date yet, but will follow recent musical adaptions of films such as Mean Girls and Pretty Woman.

The popular romantic film The Notebook will now be adapted for Broadway as a musical, state  reports . The much-loved film was responsible for even sparking off a real-life love story between the lead pair Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.

Singer-cum-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson revealed to NBC’s Today show recently that she had been developing the musical for over a year now. The show is being penned by Bekah Brunstetter, producer on the NBC family drama series This is Us. The musical will be co-produced by Nicholas Sparks, who is the author of the book on which it is based.

The Notebook was published in 1996 and trails the tumultuous love story between the lead couple. The book was adapted into a feature in 2004. Set in the backdrop of the 1940s, Gosling and McAdams are featured as a couple who part ways after falling in love, only to reconnect later.

The Broadway adaptation does not have an opening date yet, but will follow recent musical adaptions of films such as Mean Girls and Pretty Woman.
