Robert Downey Jr reveals star-studded cast of upcoming film The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle

Robert Downey Jr announced the star-studded cast of the upcoming The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle and it’s a truly extraordinary ensemble. The Iron Man star will be joining Oscar-winners Octavia Spencer and Marion Cotillard, and other seasoned actors like Jim Broadbent, Emma Thompson, Michael Sheen, Ralph Fiennes and Antonio Banderas in the film based on author Hugh Lofting‘s second Doctor Dolittle book. The cast also includes wrestler John Cena, The Big Sick’s Kumail Nanjiani, Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Tom Holland, Mr Robot’s Rami Malek and singer Selena Gomez. Image via Twitter[/caption] The 52-year-old actor tweeted on Tuesday an image comprising the full cast of the Universal Pictures film. Downey Jr also shared each of their character names and what animals the actors will be playing. He will be playing the titular doctor of course; Thompson will be voicing a parrot named Polynesia, Malek will play a gorilla named Chee Chee; Gomez will star as Betsy the Giraffe, Spencer will portray a duck called Dab-Dab and Nanjiani has been cast as as Plimpton, an ostrich. The WWE star Cena t ook to Twitter to announce that he will be playing a polar bear named Yoshi. Directed by Stephen Gaghan, The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle will be produced by Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum under their Roth/Kirschenbaum Films alongside Susan Downey (Sherlock Holmes franchise) for Team Downey. The project is based on the 1920s tales by Lofting, following a peculiar doctor who can speak with animals, shunning human patients in favour of the critters. The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle is scheduled to release on 12 April, 2019.
