Rio 2 grosses Rs 5.7 cr in its opening weekend at Indian box office

Chennai: Animated film Rio 2, which opened in cinemas worldwide on Friday, has grossed Rs 5.7 crore in its opening weekend at the Indian box office, registering the second best opening for an animated film in the country. “The fun family entertainer bagged Rs.5.7 crore gross (Rs.4 crore net), more than twice the opening of ‘Rio 1’ and the 3rd biggest opening for 2014 for any Hollywood film,” read a statement from the film’s production house Fox Star Studios. For the Hindi version, Bollywood stars Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan gave voiceover for main characters Jewel and Blu, respectively. IANS
