Vijay Sethupathi and Lakshmi Menon-starrer Rekka has released. Directed by Rathina Shiva, the Tamil action-masala film has been receiving mixed reviews from the audience.
The expectations are very high from the film as it is Sethupathi’s sixth release this year and most of his releases have done well. However the film is facing tough competition from Remo and Devi(L) at the box office.
Set in Madurai, the story revolves around an advocate who, due to certain circumstances, is forced to kidnap a girl.
While Sethupathi plays the role of the advocate, Menon takes on the role of a village girl. The story faintly reminds one of Vijay-Trisha’s 2004 film Ghilli.
PressKS.com has given the film a rating of 3.5 out of 5. According to the website the positive points of the film are good direction and the screenplay, while the negatives as a weak and boring plot line, average acting and cinematography.
Here’s what Twitterati had to say about the film:
#Rekka - Good 1st half, interesting & clever screenplay. Vijay Sethupathy's commercial attempt. Songs and fights r just show stopper!

#Rekka 1st half -Racy mass fare but with needless songs, over the top stunts. Scenes with VJS, KSR, @harishuthaman are highlights. Well set!

#Rekka @ interval. Takes the 'Ghilli'sh familiar path and delivers some solid commercial moments. #VijaySethupathi is at ease. Liking so far
