The film is based on India's momentous win in the Cricket World Cup in the year 1983 in England. Since the story is one that transcends boundaries, the makers decided to shoot for Tamil and Telugu versions simultaneously.

Ranveer Singh will be seen playing the character of former Indian cricket team skipper Kapil Dev under whose captaincy India won its first World Cup trophy.

As per a recent report, Kabir Khan revealed that the upcoming sports drama will go on floors in May, and will be shot majorly in London and in parts in India. Kabir also said that the shooting schedule would span over four months, before which Singh will undergo a rigorous training process under the tutelage of several cricketing icons, including the likes of Kapil Dev, Madan Lal and Yashpal.

Ranveer recently took to Instagram and shared that he has started preparing for 83, with a picture of him practicing at the nets.

Touted as the "biggest sports film" of the country, the movie is slated to release on 10 April, 2020.
