Quirky, funny and melodramatic — this is Rani Mukherji at her best. The first look of her upcoming film Aiyyaa is out, and the queen of Bollywood it seems, is all set to win hearts with this film. [caption id=“attachment_446519” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]
Aiyyaa Screengrab[/caption] Aiyyaa directed by Sachin Kundalkar and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and Viacom 18, is about a woman who finds a man desirable because he smells good. (Not unlike all those perfume commercials that seem to be all the rage on television these days!) Rani Mukherji plays the role of a Marathi girl who falls for a Southern hunk, Surya (played by Prithvi Raj) and then proceeds to unabashedly stalk him, much to his annoyance. The trailer begins with the matrimonial column that declares Meenakshi (Rani) to be only 22 years old and shy. Of course, this is far from the truth. But Meenakshi’s Aii (mother) wants everyone to believe that her daughter is a perfect catch for any Marathi manas especially because she makes yummy Poha and Srikhand. However, Meenakshi has other plans. She is infact ready to trade Poha and Srikhand for idli and Dosa… all for the love of the dusky hunk Surya (played by Prithvi Raj). She also starts watching Tamil channels after she falls for the man who smells Oh-so-good! The film is part reality and part dream with Rani doing a few fun and sexy dream sequence dance numbers too. After No One killed Jessica, in which she played the role of a fearless journalist, this latest role is a welcome departure for the viewer, where we see a melodramatic Rani, obsessed with her beauty, and enacting many Sridevi-esque dance sequences in her dreams.
