Ram Charan on working with SS Rajamouli: I signed his film without even listening to the script

Actor Ram Charan, who is looking forward to the release of rural action-drama Rangasthalam this week, will next join hands with Jr. NTR for S.S Rajamouli’s yet-untitled multi-starrer. The project marks the maiden collaboration of Ram Charan and NTR, who are rumoured to be playing brothers in this boxing-based drama. In a media interaction on Monday, Ram Charan revealed that he signed the project without even listening to the script. “I believe in Rajamouli. His stories have strong content and are character-driven. I’m yet to listen to the script. Rajamouli promised me he will narrate the script soon.” All eyes are on this project as it happens to be Rajamouli’s next after the critically-acclaimed and highly successful Baahubali franchise. Last year, Rajamouli confirmed about joining hands with producer DVV Danayya for a multi-starrer during Busan International Film Festival. Well-known Hollywood technicians conducted the look test for NTR and Ram Charan and the whole process was supervised by Rajamouli’s son SS Karthikeya. Amidst rumours that Samantha Akkineni might be part of the project, the makers plan to finalise the rest of the cast and crew soon. According to a source from the film’s unit, the regular shooting will commence after NTR wraps up most of his portion for his next project with Trivikram. “Rajamouli’s project will only go on the floors after NTR 28 because NTR will be in a different look for that project and he can’t shoot for both the projects simultaneously. If everything goes as planned, Rajamouli’s film will start rolling from October. The pre-production process will take a few months minimum as the film is being made on a lavish scale. Ram Charan, too, will complete Boyapati Sreenu’s project which went on the floors earlier this month. Charan is expected to join the sets soon after the release of Rangasthalam. The team has already completed one major schedule,” says a source close to the film. Kiara Advani pairs up with Charan in Sreenu’s film, which also stars Vivek Oberoi as the antagonist. Meanwhile, Ram Charan is busy with the promotions of Rangasthalam, which marks his first time collaboration with director Sukumar. Speaking at the pre-release event of the film last week, Ram Charan thanked director Sukumar for giving him an opportunity to truly experience life in a village. Shot predominantly against a rural set up in Godavari district, Charan said the film made him appreciate village lifestyle. “Except for a couple of times as a kid when I visited the sets of my dad’s films in some villages, I have never spent quality time in a village. Rangasthalam gave me the opportunity to appreciate and celebrate what it means to live in a village. Life is so peaceful in a village and we can’t find pure and clean people anywhere else. I kept thinking how much we miss staying in the cities. I need to thank team Rangasthalam and director Sukumar for this life-changing experience and I should admit I discovered a new Ram Charan in this process.” Charan went on a veggie diet, shed a few kilos and grew a thick beard for his role. He said he enjoyed his look quite a bit: “I didn’t feel like shaving for many days even after we completed shooting. I loved my bearded look. I believe Rangasthalam will make my parents proud.”
