Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dadasaheb Phalke’ biopic was one of the most anticipated films in recent times, especially because it was supposed to star Aamir Khan in the lead and mark their third collaboration after the blockbusters like 3 idiots and PK. But it seems the project has been shelved or put on the backburner to say the least. And there seems to be a reason for the same.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The two stand for perfection, and they were not happy with the script of Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic. Aamir felt that the script is too dry for the audience in today’s world, and doesn’t have the humour that one expects from their collaboration.”
It added, “After repeated sessions of rewrite, the duo have collectively decided to put the project on hold. They believe that a personality as iconic as Dadasaheb Phalke deserves a script that is both emotionally stirring and universally engaging. Until they arrive at that benchmark, they are in no hurry to rush the film into production.”
Will Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani reunite?
“Rajkumar Hirani too has started the process of identifying his next subject, and will get into the process of writing soon. While Phalke is put on hold, Raju Hirani and Aamir Khan will definitely reunite on something else.”
Aamir Khan unhappy with the script?
Another source said, “Aamir heard the script of Dadasaheb Phalke from Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi. He felt that the script didn’t have enough elements to make for a theatrical watch.”
It added, “He expected Raju and Abhijat to have a typical approach of mixing laughter with emotion and drama. But the script was devoid of comedy. This raised a doubt in the mind of Aamir, and he requested Raju to rewrite the script and come back.”
