Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, and Vicky Kaushal recently came together for Rajkumar Hirani’s comedy-drama Dunki, which was about the plight of illegal migrants and the challenges they face on an alien land. It’s based on multiple true stories coupled with fiction and cinematic liberties. Talking about the response the film has received and the messages he has been getting so far, Hirani said, “I have been receiving messages from individuals who have undertaken Dunki trips– the perilous and often illegal attempts at immigration depicted in the film. People who have been on such Dunki trips have sent very moving messages saying, ‘This is our story… we are missing home.’ So, while making Dunki.” He added, “ Dunki is a very unique story that sheds light on a very important subject that has never been brought to the big screen in such a manner that resonated with the real-life dunkers. Most of these people leave their homes eventually to come back, nobody leaves a home thinking that will permanently settle there. They are like, ‘We will go there, make money, and come back and retire in my own country’ but most don’t.” So, for me, home is a great emotion and that was more inspiring while making Dunki." On working with Shah Rukh Khan In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, the filmmaker revealed, “Actually, we have been wanting to work together for a long, but it didn’t materialise. But this time what happened during the COVID times, he asked me what I was working on. I told him my ideas and he got fascinated with the story of  _Dunki_ . He was completely part of the journey from the beginning. Shah Rukh Khan shares a lot of love and it’s a joy to meet him and just chat with him.”
