Many South films face the grave issue of piracy. With sites like the Tamil Rockers releasing full HD prints of films within hours of its release, the governments have also now turned lackadaisical towards the issue. Recently, there were tweets shared by fans which showed Petta being screened in government buses. One such tweet was brought to the notice of Tamil Film Producer’s Council president and Nadigar Sangam secretary Vishal, who shared the clip online, urging government bodies to take action.

As per reports , the anti-piracy cell also responded to Vishal’s plea, stating that they were looking into the issue and would take the necessary action at the soonest. Petta released across theatres on 10 January during the Pongal weekend. The soundtrack has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander, replacing Subbaraj’s usual music director Santhosh Narayanan, who collaborated with him on his earlier films. Petta also received considerably good reviews post its release.
