Raid box office collection: Ajay Devgn-Ileana D'Cruz starrer rakes in Rs 10 cr on opening day
Ajay Devgn and Ileana D'Cruz-starrer Raid had a Rs 10 crore opening, beating the first day collection of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.

Ajay Devgn's Raid has proven that his brooding, no-nonsense avatar is just as popular as his comic image. The Raj Kumar Gupta-directed film had a Rs 10 crore opening, beating the first day collection of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.
After an ordinary start in morning shows, #Raid jumped post noon onwards... Evening/night shows saw super growth... A double digit start for a non-masala, realistic film is heartening... Strong word of mouth should boost numbers on Sat and Sun... Fri ₹ 10.04 cr. India biz.

In Raid, Devgn plays an unbending income tax official who conducts a high-stakes raid on an influential but corrupt politician (played by Saurabh Shukla). The story is inspired by certain real life incidents which took place in Uttar Pradesh in the '80s. Ileana D'Cruz plays the supportive wife who is exasperated with the packing and moving (owing to her husband's numerous transfers) but does not let that deter her from her familial responsibilities. The film has received a positive response from the critics for its clean, non-Bollywoodised story.

Raid is now 2018's third biggest opener, dethroning Luv Ranjan's romantic comedy. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat and R Balki's Padman are currently at the first and second spots respectively.

SS Rajamouli is right, RRR is not a Bollywood film, although it aspires to be one
If push comes to shove, RRR is more ‘Bollywood’ than Bollywood itself. The bromance between Ram Charan and NTR Jr is a direct echo of Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra’s Jai and Veru act in Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay.

RRR maker SS Rajamouli is the first name among ‘Grand Masters’?
The first to feature in the Grand Masters series is the newsy globetrotter SS Rajamouli who has definitely taken the song-and-dance tradition of Indian cinema to the West with RRR.
