Global icon Priyanka Chopra is getting local. Her foray into producing regional cinema continues with her next announcement of a Sikkimese-Nepalese film under her production banner Purple Pebble Pictures. Image from Getty[/caption] Deccan Chronicle reports that Priyanka’s mother, gynecologist and co-owner of Purple Pebble Pictures, Dr Madhu Chopra has announced that their next production venture is a Nepalese-Sikkimese film titled Paua, which translates to guest in English. The project has been in the pipeline ever since the actor went to north-east India three years ago when she was shooting for Omung Kumar’s boxing biopic Mary Kom in Assam. Recently, Priyanka was appointed as the brand ambassador for Assam tourism and she attended a tourism event on 26 December in the state capital Guwahati. Now, her mother has revealed that they are planning to produce Paua which will revolve around how parents get separated from children in times of socio-political crisis. Mid-day reports that the Chopras will cast local talent from Sikkim and Nepal in the film. While the male actors will be from the region, the female actors will be outsourced from the Hindi film industry. The Times of India reports that the Chopras are also considering exploring Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh cinema after recent success in Marathi cinema (Ventilator) and Bhojpuri cinema (Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi). They are also expecting their Punjabi venture Sarvann, which is scheduled to release on 13 January 2017, to be a success. The report by Mid-day states that the Chopras were also planning to foray into the television industry through a singing show involving all SAARC nations. However, that show has now been shelved owing to the tension between a few nations of the group.
