The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton broke the silence on her absence from public appearances and revealed that she is battling cancer. Sharing a video on her update, she said, “In January I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful; however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.”
Middleton becomes the third UK Royal to be diagnosed with cancer after King Charles and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.
Kate has begun a course of preventative chemotherapy treatment. “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” Middleton said in the video.
“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken us time for me to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that’s appropriate for them and to reassure them I’m going to be OK,” added Kate.
After this announcement, we saw many celebs reacting to Kate’s disease and wished for her speedy recovery. Katie Couric lauded Kate and wrote on social media, “Catherine, Princess of Wales, revealed Friday that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is being treated with preventative chemotherapy. As someone who has experienced cancer, I was deeply moved by her comments. Sending her and her family healing thoughts.”
On the other hand, Maria Shriver urged people to leave Kate alone and “allow the privacy she and her family need.” Olivia Munn commented on Prince and Princess Instagram post, “Thank you for showing what it’s like to fight with grace and determination for yourself and for your family. Wishing you all the best.”
