Pehredaar Piya Ki: Tejaswi Prakash, Suyyash Rai and producers come out in support of their show

A girl aged 18 married to a nine-year-old boy — having her suhag raat and even enjoying a honeymoon — may sound cringe-worthy and regressive to many, but the show’s lead actor Tejaswi Prakash does not see anything wrong with the storyline of her Hindi television show Pehredaar Piya Ki. YouTube screengrab.[/caption] Prakash has come out in defense of her bordering-on-the-edge-of-pedophilia television show after the soap recently fueled off an entire petition opposing the airing of the show on national prime time television, with more than 103,000 signatures at last count. “I think it’s really progressive. It also happened in Game Of Thrones. People love Game Of Thrones and if same thing happens in Pehredaar Piya Ki, then it’s an issue. I’m an actor. I just get my script, go on the set and I perform. There is nothing wrong that we have shown,” said Prakash according to an IANS report. Previously, the producer of the show Sumeet Mittal had also come out in strong support of the television drama.  He said that he ‘completely enjoyed and cherished the backlash’ claiming that something like this had never happened before, making it a ‘first-time experience’. The producer then went on to reiterate that Pehredaar Piya Ki was a fictitious show calling it the story of a girl who had been given the job to protect a young boy (royal prince) from the various impending threats that were expected to befall the child. In order to be with the kid 24/7, the girl made the decision to marry the child instead. Mittal went on to call their bond a ‘very pure one’. It’s all imagined by these critics to pull our show down. The producers have been in the industry for a long time and do know their job well. People are only targeting us because it’s a different show. It is not just an entertaining show but it is also helping so many people earn their living. We are not here to preach but only present a fictitious entertaining story,” said Suyyash Rai, an actor from the show according to an Indian Express report.
