In response to Sanjay Dutt’s plea that he be granted six months to complete the films he’s working on before returning to prison and completing his sentence, the Supreme Court has granted him a four-week extension. The judges said they had made this decision on “humanitarian grounds”. The four-week extension gives a new lease of life to some films that Dutt is associated with, which would have been inevitably been stalled for years at least if the actor’s plea for an extension had been rejected. Dutt is leaving no stone unturned to finish his work commitments before he surrenders and has reportedly been working double shifts. Aamir Khan has gone out of his way to allot dates out of turn to Peekay to ensure that Dutt’s scenes are completed in time. The second big film that Dutt is associated with is Zanjeer, directed by Apoorv Lakhia. A remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s 1973 classic, the shooting for the film is already complete but Dutt is still dubbing for it. Dutt has also been filming for producer TP Agarwal’s Policegiri along with Prachi Desai and the film is still on the floors. The actor was also expected to do a cameo role in Ghanchakkar, directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, starring Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan. However that has been cancelled. While the makers of the hit franchise Munnabhai — Raj Kumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra — have already said that they will wait for the actor to make the third movie in the series. “The reel Munnabhai will wait for the real Munnabhai. He will indeed walk on the sets of the next Munnabhai as he comes back to us free,” Hirani and Chopra said in a statement. Hasmukh Pighal Gaya, directed by Sejal Shah and starring mostly newcomers is expected to feature Dutt, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn in cameo roles. The film is a home production for Dutt. However, whether he will be able to shoot for it is yet to be known. The actor has completed work for some of the films like Rensil D’Silva’s Unglee, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
