The fans of Messi, the Border Collie featured in Justine Triet’s Oscar-nominated film ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, were left disheartened after the news surfaced that the canine will not be returning to Los Angeles for the Academy Awards ceremony. However, in a delightful surprise, Messi graced the 2024 Oscars, leaving everyone in complete awe. The Palm Dog Award recipient captured the hearts of many with its presence at the ceremony.
During the Oscar ceremony, host Jimmy Kimmel acknowledged Messi’s contribution humorously as he poked fun at the Best Picture nominees including Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Maestro among others.
While jesting about Robert Downey Jr.’s role in ‘ Oppenheimer ,’ the host quipped saying that the actor played a villain in The Shaggy Dog (2006) but he would be replaced by Messi if the film is remade. The camera promptly showcased Messi sitting in a chair among the audience. Kimmel went on to praise Messi’s impactful performance in the film as he playfully mentioned the unforgettable overdose scene that left a lasting impression on viewers.
In a stylish bow tie, Messi looked all adorable. He was also seen in a brief appearance while applauding Downey at the time he was giving his acceptance speech after being honoured with the Best Supporting Actor award.
In the film Anatomy of a Fall, Messi essayed the role of Snoop, Milo Machado-Graner’s service dog. After Milo discovers that his father is dead, the film unravels a complex murder trial in which Sandra is the main suspect for killing her husband.
Meanwhile, Messi caught everyone’s attention after attending the Oscars nominees luncheon in February. During his presence, he bonded with the likes of Ryan Gosling, and Billie Eilish, who spent nearly 10 minutes with the dog. Messi’s trainer and dog mom Laura Martin, while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, said, “The big moment was with Billie Eilish. They were hugging and petting and they really had a vibe. Then Bradley Cooper bumped into him in the hallway. The dog went right to him, so they also had a connection.”
