It seems Aditya Chopra has lately hit on a new method of announcing Yash Raj Films' upcoming projects: to do have their stars telling it as it is on video. After Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor announced Befikre's release date on a video, it is now Parineeti Chopra's turn.

In the latest video uploaded by YRF, we see the very lovely Parineeti Chopra in front of a mirror, singing a few lines of a song.

Shes back! Parineeti Chopra turns singer to announce her next film, Meri Pyaari Bindu

Maana ke hum yaar nahin/ yeh taiy hai ke pyaar nahin/ phir bhi nazren na tum milana/ dil ka aitbaar nahin,” Parineeti sings to announce her first film in over a year, co-starring, in her words, her “singer-buddy” Ayushmann Khurrana.

First, about Parineeti’s singing. She negotiates the words of the melody as though to the tenor born. Unlike other actresses-turned-singers like Shraddha Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and even Parineeti’s cousin Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti holds her notes like a professional singer.

That’s the first point I noted about the announcement. The second is that the film will be directed by debutant Akshay Roy who, Parineeti informs mischievously, is not a Bengali.

More significantly, Aditya Chopra’s quest for new talent continues. In the recent past he has introduced significant filmmakers such as Shaad Ali (Saathiya), Maneesh Sharma (Band Baaja Baaraat) and Atul Sabharwal (Aurangzeb). Akshay Roy comes to Yash Raj after assisting Aamir Khan and Amol Gupte in Taare Zameen Par.

The short and very sweet introduction to the project brings us exciting tidings of two new talents: director Akshay Roy and Parineeti Chopra, the singer. Yes, she tells us that she will be singing the same beautiful melody in the film.

And yes, before we forget, the film’s title Meri Pyaari Bindu pays a homage to Kishore Kumar’s song of that title from Padosan.

Parineeti pays a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the Padosan song by humming it for us as the black-and-white announcement card writes out the film’s title.

That’s it then. Bindu, see you at the movies.
