Nandita denies pressing charges of domestic violence against Om Puri

Despite the initial reports stating that Nandita Puri has reportedly filed a case against her husband and actor Om Puri at a police station alleging domestic violence, in an interview to PTI  Nandita clarified that she has not filed any case of domestic violence but have reported physical and verbal abuse by her husband Om Puri to the police. Journalist-columnist Nandita filed the complaint at the Versova Police Station on 23 August. ‘I have not filed for domestic violence but filed for physical and verbal abuse…He got a call from ex-wife who instigated him to bash me up. He started abusing and hitting me..I called my son and he stopped us.’ said Nandita Puri. However, police had initially said that a case of domestic violence has been filed by Nandita against the actor. “He (Puri) has been accused of domestic violence. A complaint was filed by his wife on the 23rd of August. There have been no developments since then. The actor is not in custody yet,” a police official from the police station told IANS. The Mumbai Police has said that it is on the lookout for the actor but has been unable to trace him so far. An alumnus of the National School of Drama and the Film and Television Institute of India, Om Puri carved a niche for himself with films like Aakrosh and Ardh Satya. He also entertained viewers with his comic timing in Hera Pheri. This is not the first time Nandita and Om Puri are facing domestic problems. In 2009, when Nandita came out with a biography on her husband titled “Unlikely Hero: The Story Of Om Puri” highlighting some of his most private sexual incidents, it had upset the Padma Shri winner resulting in a public war of words.
