The Shobhaa De Olympics tweet backlash has led to another Twitter fight, between actor Sonam Kapoor and musician Abhijeet Bhattacharya this time. To rewind a little, writer Shobhaa De found herself at the receiving end of Twitterati’s fury after she posted criticisms about the Indian contingent’s performance at the 2016 Summer olympics in Rio.
Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat wapas aao. What a waste of money and opportunity.

Only hope? Dependable Abhinav Bindra. Aim for gold, champion!

Several sportspersons — including Abhinav Bindra and Jwala Gutta — responded to De’s tweet, pointing out that it was unfair and ill-considered. A picture she posted on Instagram had comments that called her ‘b***h’, ‘wily, old c**t’ — and those are among the politer names. _Shobhaa De trolls Indian contingent at Olympics; gets trolled by Twitterati in return_ Among this barrage of critics was singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who was in the news in the first week of July for abusive tweets against journalist Swati Chaturvedi , who then lodged a complaint against him with the Mumbai Police. Bhattacharya had tweeted about the murder of Chennai techie S Swathi, and called it a case of ’love jihad’, following which he got into the Twitter altercation with Chaturvedi. On Tuesday, Abhijeet tweeted in response to Shobhaa De’s message:
Support for De came from actor Sonam Kapoor, who tweeted:
You're such a hypocrite.. https://t.co/FoTF1sp5c6
— Sonam K Ahuja (@sonamakapoor) August 9, 2016
This in turn, prompted further comment from Abhijeet, who said:
Sonam first contented herself with sharing a few emoticons, then explained her stance with another tweet, and a re-tweet from comedian Rohan Joshi:

the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case.
Bhattacharya in the meantime, continued to trade tweets with like-minded followers on the micro-blogging platform:
