In case the title Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice wasn’t enough, we now have another teaser featuring the intense dislike between Zack Snyder’s Batman and Superman.
The sneak-peek was released during a US telecast of Gotham, and is a prelude to a longer trailer slated to premiere on Tuesday on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
The 50-second teaser shows Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman suitably annoyed at each other as we see The Man of Steel and The Dark Knight engage in an intense staring match.
We see a peeved Batman (judging from Affleck’s lip sneer) hanging from his wrists as he looks around at the others tied around him. Enter Superman, with a loud crash and dust flying around as the soldiers guarding Batman bow down. He then approaches Batman and yanks off his mask, regarding it with pure disgust while Affleck does his best to return the glare. Cue title card.
True to its billing, it teases us and leaves us with even more questions. (No, not ‘Do you bleed?’ this time.)
Firstly, who are these soldiers who have managed to capture Batman and leave him hanging? Why are they bowing down to Superman? Why do Affleck and Cavill look so disgusted with each other? (Or is that a look of anger?) Did Clark Kent only just figure out that Batman is Bruce Wayne? Is Batman wearing eye make-up and wear does it disappear after the mask is taken off? Is this the work of Lex Luthor? When will we see Flash and Aquaman? (Okay, maybe not that one.)
Here is what we know of the epic clash of justice, according to the official summary:
Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
Coming so soon after Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War’s trailer , a comparison between the two franchises’ superhero clashes seems inevitable, despite one being the first official trailer and the other, one of many teasers. And while Marvel showed us an all out war involving several of their main heroes, DC is still teasing us with the Batman-Superman standoff. It remains to be seen whether which war will be more devastating for fans and lucrative for the the box office. For now, we look forward to 2016.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to open worldwide on 25 March, 2016.
