In the end, all that matters is money. The controversial The Indrani Mukerjea Story – Buried Truth is all about money and to what extent people can go to get that. The docuseries truly lives up to the complexities around the Sheena Bora case that literally shook the nation.

The series clearly shows Indrani Mukherjea ’s love for power, money and instant popularity. And her interviews truly represent that she is nothing less than a social climber. It’s not a sin to be ambitious and to have high aspirations, but the problem starts when your aspirations cannot matchup to your capabilities. It is very evident through the docuseries that some people especially those working under her were really happy with her downfall and her arrest. And this is not because of she being a woman in power that people had a problem with, the problem started when she tried to misuse her power and treated others like scum of the earth forgetting her own shady background. I won’t say humble, I would call it ‘shady background’ with a ‘dysfunctional family’ and that reflected in her behaviour.

No wonder Indrani didn’t value family and nor did she have any ethics. When you treat people badly, embarrass them and shout at them in group meetings like the way people remember her just because you are at te helm of power, there will be people waiting to see your downfall. And it is very evident that what happened to Indrani Mukherjea was bound to happen.

Still from Netflix’s The Indrani Mukerjea Story – Buried Truth

In the docuseries, Indrani Mukherjea talks about how she had the fire in her belly to do great in life. But what made her choose the wrong path of luring rich men and changing partners? She could have slogged it out? But she chose the shortcuts and the way she talks about her own son, her parents is really distasteful. And makes you question – What kind of a mother is she? The way she calls her names for her son, Mikhail, I feel that somewhere down the line she forgets that she has given birth to him and he is in this world because of her and not because he wanted to come to this world and be a party of her murky life. So wasn’t it her duty to protect all her children and not be selective about it. Then why this step motherly treatment?

Netflix ’s docuseries, The Indrani Mukerjea Story – Buried Truth very intelligenyly brings out the true nature of Indrani and how nothing mattered to her other than her luxurious life and easy flow of money. Now coming back to the intention of making this show is definitely not solving the murder case of Sheena Bora, but to find out the intention, the greed and how eccentric brains of the rich and famous people function. No crime in recent years have this kind of eccentricity the way this case has and The Indrani Mukerjea Story – Buried Truth brings that out in the best possibl way.

Indrani who alleged to have murdered her sister, then who turns out to be her daughter and in the show she claims that Sheena was her father and her daughter, all these revelations by her will definitely make your stomach turn.

Going back to the case and how it all started, Sheena was missing for three years before charges were filed against Indrani and her alleged co-conspirators — her driver, and second ex-husband, and her then-spouse Peter Mukerjea. No doubt the case was blown out of proportion and the interest shown towards it on national television was mainly because both Indrani and Peter were influential people. We all know their connections with politicians and Bollywood and that they were media tycoons and they had competitors in the field.

Another question that comes to my mind while watching the series is that, why did Indrani agree to speak in this docuseries, while the others like Peter Mukherjea (her ex-husband) and her step son Rahul refused. I was also surprised to see how impeccably dressed Indrani was for each and every shot of the docuseries.

But the real star of this docuseries, I would say is Vidhie, Indrani’s daughter. She is smart, honest, sorted and aware. She is the only one who really cares about Sheena missing and misses her dearly. She doesn’t mince words and mentions that money was a big motivator behind the case.

I also fail to understand why repeatedly in the series, Indrani calls herself, “I am a good mother, but not a perfect mother.” We all know that we are not perfect and there is nothing like ‘perfect mother’, but what do you call a mother who doesn’t give her own kids the right to call her ‘Ma’, just because she is hiding her filthy past from th world.
