Actress Sheena Chohan who acted with Madhuri Dixit in Netflix’s The Fame Game and then in Kajol’s web-series The Trial, is now gearing up for a pan-India film with Satya fame JD Chakraborty. Talking about the rise of the OTT platforms, the actress had something to share about her own experience.
Chohan said, “The OTT space is revolutionary — it has opened doors for authentic storytelling and given actors like me, who started from scratch, opportunities to be part of narratives that travel globally. I’ve performed in seven international films that reached audiences worldwide, and OTT continues that global bridge.”
The actress also spoke about playing Avali in Sant Tukaram opposite Subodh Bhave and revealed, “Avali was a role that deeply resonated with me because it demanded truth, discipline, and an understanding of devotion within the fabric of history. My foundation in theatre — five years under the mentorship of Arvind Gaur — trained me to fully inhabit characters with authenticity.”
Sheena added, “I came into the industry without a godfather, and it was theatre that became my training ground. That discipline helped me bring Avali to life with honesty. Standing alongside an artist like Subodh Bhave made the experience even more fulfilling, and the critical acclaim the film received marked it as a true milestone in my career.”
On her film with JD Chakraborty
This film is special because it continues my pan-India journey — from South, to Bengali, to Bollywood. Sharing screen space with an actor of JD Chakravarthy’s stature is an exciting step forward. My character in this story is layered and demands resilience, much like my own personal journey where challenges became my driving force. I’m drawn to roles that require both strength and vulnerability, and this project gives me that scope.
On her process for choosing roles
For me, it always begins with truth. Theatre taught me to approach every role with discipline and authenticity. I look for stories that challenge me and resonate with human resilience — whether it’s history, drama, or contemporary narratives. Having worked across industries — with Mammootty in Malayalam cinema, Buddhadeb Dasgupta in Bengali films, and now Bollywood — I’ve seen that what matters most is the honesty of the character and how much it can impact people.
