Netflix rounded off a successful year by winning big at Golden Globes 2019 in five film and television categories. Alfonso Cuarón’s heart-wrenching masterpiece _Roma_, which released on Netflix, took home the Best Director of a Motion Picture award and a trophy for Best Foreign Language Film. The win came as a surprise as the comedy bested the Golden Globe winner from last year, _The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel_ by Amazon Prime Video and NBC’s The Good Place. Bodyguard, a BBC show which is distributed by the streaming giant outside the UK and Ireland, got Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden the Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama Television Series. The show is promoted as a Netflix Original outside of the above mentioned countries. The big night also significantly boosted Netflix’s position in the stock market, as reported by Variety. After the star-studded event on Sunday night, the streaming giant’s shares recorded a 6 percent jump. Other big winner this year include Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book and The Americans.
