Naseeruddin Shah’s comments on the first superstar of Bollywood, Rajesh Khanna’s acting skills have stirred up a hornet’s nest. His statements that the Anand actor was “a limited, poor actor” and that he brought “mediocrity in Hindi cinema of the 1970s” got him a lot of flak from the late actor’s family and fans. Khanna’s wife Dimple Kapadia has reacted to Shah’s statements by saying that she doesn’t need to speak about Khanna’s success as everyone knows who he was and what his achievements are.
A DNA report
has quoted Dimple as saying, “I just want to say that while I understand that everyone has the right to their own opinion, the man’s career and legacy speak for him. I don’t need to over-emphasise his accomplishments or what he has done for Hindi cinema. You know them, I know them, millions of his fans know them as well.” Earlier, Khanna’s daughter
Twinkle Khanna slammed Shah’s comments on Twitter
asking him to respect a dead man, who cannot respond to his comments. Also read: Dear Naseeruddin Shah, it is unfair to call Rajesh Khanna a poor actor, his cinema mediocre
Shah later apologised for his words saying that his intention wasn’t to hurt anyone. In the DNA report, he says, “I apologise to those who were personally offended. My intention was not to attack him but to talk about how a certain phase in history affected the course of Hindi cinema.” The Masoom actor had earlier waged a similar attack on superstar Amitabh Bachchan saying that he’s not an actor, but a commodity.
