Narcos location manager fatally shot in Mexico; body found in area known for drug-related violence

Carlos Muñoz Portal, a location manager for Netflix’s hit show Narcos, was fatally shot in rural Mexico. According to Variety, Portal was scouting for locations, when he was shot in a hostile region known for drug-related violence. Image from Twitter.[/caption] His body was found hours later on a secluded road in San Bartolo Actopan, and had multiple gunshot wounds. The area is in proximity to the Hidago State, which reportedly has the highest murder rate in Mexico, most of which are drug-related. The rest of the details about this killing remain unknown, and an investigation is underway. The streaming giant acknowledged the event by releasing a statement which said, “We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family. The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.” As per a report in  Deadline, Portal was a graduate of the University of the Americas and had impressive credentials as a location scout, having worked on films like Apocalypto, Spectre and Fast and Furious. The third season of Narcos focused on the rising Cali Cartel, their eventual downfall and the shift of the drug-mafia circuit to Mexico. However, this unfortunate incident raises questions about whether the team will continue to shoot in Mexico or move to some other location, possibly Colombia, where the first two seasons were shot.
