Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase trailer: Sophia Lillis plays iconic teen sleuth in Ellen DeGeneres-produced film
The iconic teenage sleuth Nancy Drew makes a comeback to the big screen with the upcoming film Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase. The trailer was dropped by Ellen DeGeneres, where It breakthrough star Sophia Lillis plays the titular role.
The life of the resident amateur detective of a sluggish small town is suddenly altered when she undertakes the mission to unearth the mystery behind a haunted house. Armed with her penchant for deduction and a skateboard, Sophia Lillis' Nancy Drew rides around town as she sets out to "solve a mystery, make new friends, and establish their place in the community", according to the official description of the movie.
The film is based on The Hidden Staircase, the second volume in the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories series written under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene. It was originally published in 1930 and revised in 1959. This would be the second feature film on Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, after Bonita Granville's 1939 adaptation.
Another screen adaptation of Nancy Drew in 2007 witnessed Emma Roberts as the titular character, Max Thieriot as Ned Nickerson, and Tate Donovan as Carson Drew.
Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase is directed by Katt Shea from a screenplay by Nina Fiore and John Herrera. It is being produced by Ellen DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman, and Chip Diggins for Warner Bros and is slated to release on 15 March.
