Nandita Puri has reportedly filed a case against her husband and actor Om Puri at a police station in Mumbai, alleging domestic violence. There are reports that actor is presently missing although he has offered responses to his wife’s allegations to one newspaper. According to a Times Of India report, trouble started brewing in the Puri marriage when Om rekindled his relationship with his ex-wife, Seema, and moved in with her. Nandita and Om are not legally divorced and Nandita had earlier filed a suit against him, demanding maintenance under the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act in a family court (the case is still being heard). The Padmashree-awarded actor wasn’t amused and a public skirmish of words followed between husband and wife. After Nandita filed her complaint this time, the police have drawn up charges against Om Puri as per three sections of the Indian Penal Code. He is charged with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, as well as criminal intimidation and intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace. Nandita told Times Of India that despite agreeing on the payment of maintenance to Nandita, Om Puri is reluctant to make these payments and has been pressurising her to move out of his house. “He wants me to leave the house and shift to Kolkata,” said Nandita. “He has not been paying proper maintenance and has been avoiding court hearings.” Om, however, has a different story to tell. In response to Nandita’s accusations, Om has described her as a “compulsive liar”. He said Nandita often cooks up such tales and all charges of domestic violence against him are completely false. “She has been alleging that I don’t pay her maintenance, which is a complete lie,” said Om. “I have proof of every payment I made to her and it is nothing less than Rs 60 lakh. She wanted most of my property, which I was ready to give because I want peace…Earlier, she accused me of trying to kidnap her son. Her allegation proved to be a lie,” he added.
