After facing flak on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter and being vehemently criticised by the media for calling the AIB Roast violent , actor Aamir Khan, in a recent interview tried to justify his statement. During a conversation with Mumbai Mirror, the actor said that his remark on AIB was a ‘more emotional than a moralistic one’ and complained that people who did not sign up for AIB’s show — Reema Lagoo, Farida Jalal and others — got dragged into it none the less and he did not approve of it. Khan especially mentioned a girl whom he knows for long, whose sentiments were hurt due to AIB Roast. That is unfair! This is what I meant when I described the show as “violent”.Films which depict violence are fictional but this young girl is real.” he added. The actor went on to point out that he neither had any objection with the language of the show and nor did he have a problem with the fact that two consenting adults participated and agreed to get insulted. However, his objection still remains about ‘attacking anyone’ the participants felt like. “..That (attacking others) is no different from the physical violence we see around us and object to.” the actor said during the interview. Khan further went on to say that he did believe that with ‘freedom comes responsibility’ and pointed out that he was neither a rightwing fascists nor a ’no barholder’ but was a moderate person. Talking about all the criticism being hurled at him for his AIB remark, Khan said as the maker of adult comedy Delhi Belly he thought it was his responsibility to ask for adult certification and so he did. The actor also replied to Russell Peters’ jive, in which the comedian asked Khan to ‘shut up’ and said, “..when someone uses the words “shut up”, it makes me believe that these people are certainly not a part of the group that is for freedom of speech.” you can read the full interview of Aamir Khan here. Khan had previously said that he found the content of AIB “too violent” and was “disappointed by it”.
