MTV EMAs: Priyanka Chopra loses to Tanzanian artiste Diamond Platnumz

The MTV Europe Music Awards were held inside the Mediolanum Center in Milan on Sunday night. Justin Bieber was the big winner as he bagged five awards, including for best male performer, best collaboration, best look and Worldwide act: North America. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra, who had been nominated in the Worldwide Act: Africa/India category for My City, lost to Tanzanian artiste Diamond Platnumz. Chopra had beat other Indian artistes such as Indus Creed, Monica Dogra and The Ska Vengers to reach the final but the award finally went to Diamond Platnumz. The 26-year-old is a Bongo Flava artiste and his best known song is Number One. Taylor Swift, who led all artists with nine nominations, took just one prize, best song, for Bad Blood, featuring Kendrick Lamar. Rihanna won best female performer while Nicki Minaj took best hip hop. One Direction won for best pop group, preventing Bieber from sweeping all the awards for which he was nominated. None of those artistes were on hand to accept, and only Minaj sent along a video “thank you.” The awards ceremony travels to a different European city each year and winners are selected by fans across the continent.
