Buoyed by mostly positive reviews from viewers and critics alike, and with its unbeatable combination of cricket and Bollywood, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story coasted to spectacular box office opening on Friday, 30 September.

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is among the biggest film releases in recent times. It opened at no fewer than 4,500 screens across India. By contrast, Sultan and Kabali both had 4,000. MSD was also dubbed into several regional languages, that played in theatres alongside the Hindi version.

By the end of Friday, trade analysts reported that the Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer had collected around Rs 21 crore at the box office. The numbers were expected to pick up further over the weekend for this Neeraj Pandey film.

Trade expert Taran Adarsh pointed out that MS Dhoni: The Untold Story was well on its way to becoming the most successful film in the biopic genre in India.

Its Rs 21+ crore opening also puts it in second place among the top-five day one earners among Bollywood films.

Unless there is a complete reversal of fortunes, figures at the close of the opening weekend should further cement MS Dhoni: The Untold Story's position among the top blockbusters of 2016.
