If the box office collections of the 7-9 July weekend are anything to go by, audiences are showing a strong preference for films whose content is promising and appreciated by critics. Spider-Man: Homecoming has been hailed as the best Marvel movie thus far, and its lead Tom Holland has been praised for surpassing previous actors in terms of essaying the role of the superhero. While Sridevi was lauded for her performance in Mom, she was let down by the film’s clichéd portraying of crimes against women. Guest Iin London, which saw Paresh Raval in a comedy role, surprisingly also showed shades of a romantic and thriller film, and was considered a let-down . Spider-Man: Homecoming’s performance far exceeded that of the two Bollywood releases. [caption id=“attachment_3783529” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] Posters of Sridevi-starrer MOM. This means that the film has earned Rs 7.98 crore in total, and achieved 75 per cent growth.

Oversees, the film has made $340,000, which amounts to Rs 2.2 crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh remarked that the film is following the same trend as Sridevi’s earlier films English Vinglish and Judaai, which released in 2012 and 1997 respectively. This film is a revenge-drama about sexual violence and crimes against women. Directed by Ravi Udyawar, this film also includes in its cast Sajal Ali, Adnan Siddiqui, Abhimanyu Singh, Vikas Verma, Adarsh Gourav Bhagvatula and Pitobash Tripathy.
#Mom trending similar to Sri's last 'major release' #Judaai [1997]. #EV [2012] and #Mom following same trend: Biz grows slowly, but surely!

[caption id=“attachment_3790869” align=“alignnone” width=“1280”] Guest Iin London. Image from Twitter[/caption] Guest Iin London did not have the same fate as Mom, and its box office collections remained low on day 2 as well. That being said, the film’s earnings almost doubled; it earned Rs 1.50 crore on Friday, and Rs 2.75 crore, thus making its total collections Rs 4.85 crore thus far. The film had 8-10 per cent occupancy in the morning shows on the first day. This Paresh Rawal-starrer was criticised for being directionless and for the lead actor’s flailing comic timing. It tells the story of a man who aspires to live in the UK and fake-marries an Indian-born citizen of this country to achieve this dream. While these two Bollywood releases struggled to make Rs 5 crore together, this Marvel film alone earned Rs 6.5 crore. Over the weekend, this film has raked in Rs 42 crore, which is $6.5 million.
