The first look at the fifth instalment of the much-loved Mission: Impossible franchise Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation was released on Monday. And contrary to what we were expecting, the one-minute teaser doesn’t reveal a thing about the new film. Then again, it mostly shows boring versions of the same stunts we’ve seen in MI movies so far. [caption id=“attachment_2168341” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Screenshot from Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation trailer. Courtesy: Youtube[/caption] For starters, we see Tom Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt, tied to a pole, using escapology skills to beat the living daylights of out pretty much everyone in the room. MI4 began with Hunt in a Russian prison using escapology skills to beat up anyone who came in his way and escape the prison. The next scene is Ethan Hunt performing stunts on a bike. Sounds familiar? One of the most memorable actions scenes in the Mission: Impossible franchise and, for that matter, in action movies, was when Hunt fights the bad guys and the villain on a bike in MI2. Even his hairstyle in the bike scene in the MI5 trailer is the same as in MI2. The only hint of a plot that you get is when you hear an intense Ethan Hunt tell Simon Pegg’s character Benji Dunn about “a rogue nation - trained to do what we do,” to which a scared Benji replies, “an anti-IMF”. If you thought things could not get more cliched, there is a cheesy line in which a woman tells Hunt, “You want to bring down the syndicate? It’s impossible.” (Geddit?) The only exciting and truly new stunt which you see Ethan Hunt doing is when he is desperately hanging on to the side of a plane as it is taking off. Let’s hope that the trailer for the movie, which is set to be released on Tuesday, has more in store for the viewers. Because if the movie is anything like the teaser, it is going to be utterly boring.
