Mirzya second trailer reveals intriguing story-line of the Mirza-Sahiban folklore
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's upcoming film Mirzya has released its second trailer and it reveals the intriguing story of the Mirza-Sahiban folklore.
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's upcoming film Mirzya has released its second trailer and it reveals an intriguing plot of a triangle love story.
The trailer takes us through different eras — there is the Mirza-Sahiban from the ancient folklore and then there are the lovers from the modern times. We see Sahiban, teary eyed, yet breaking Mirza's arrows. In modern times, the lovers run away from Sahiban's home on the night of her wedding to another boy.
While the modern love story of Adil and Suchi is set in Rajasthan, the epic love story is seen in Ladakh.
When the trailer shifts from one era to another it reminds us that despite the passage of time, even today lovers do give their lives away for their love.
The second trailer is not entirely new as a lot of their visuals are taken from the earlier one. Even the track playing in the background Hota Hai, is taken from a narration that played out in the first trailer. But what sets this trailer apart is that it gives us more telling details of their love story. This trailer also has more dialogues that clearly spell out the storyline.
Mehra has also given abundant importance to the music in his film as is evidently seen by his credit to Shankar Ehsaan Loy right in the trailer.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Mehra explains how the Mirza-Sahiban love story inspired him to make this film.
"What happens in the story is, when the time comes, Sahiba breaks Mirza’s arrows. So he is unable to defend himself and in the process, is killed. Then the director would come on stage at the end of the play and ask the question why did Sahiba break the arrows? That question kind of stayed with me for the longest time. It’s almost been 35 years since I have been out of college."
The Punjabi folklore revolves around young lovers Mirza-Sahiban, who are separated by their parents when they discover their love.
Sahiban is betrothed to a man named Tahir Khan. But when Mirza comes to know of it he immediately elopes with Sahiban. Her family members, realising her absence, come in search of her. Meanwhile the couple having ridden a safe distance decide to rest awhile.
Sahiban knew that Mirzya was a great shooter and fearing that he might shoot her brother dead when they find them, Sahiban breaks all his arrows. She hoped that her brothers will show them pity. However when the brothers arrived they aimed an arrow at Mirza's neck.
Before the second arrow could hit him Sahiban comes in between and both are killed by the same arrow.
The trailer more or less follows this storyline, but surely with the additions that Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra would bring in.
Mirzya will see Gulzar coming back to screenplay writing after a gap of seventeen years, after he last wrote for Tabu-starrer Hu Tu Tu. Starring Saiyami Kher and Harshvardhan Kapoor the film will release on 7 October.
