Milind Soman has been in the news for his participation in The Great India Run for which he is running barefoot from Ahmedabad to Mumbai — a distance of 570 km. But now he has company, and from none other than his 76-year-old mother who joined him in the last leg of the marathon.

Usha Soman, dressed in sari, ran barefoot just like her son and effortlessly matched his pace becoming his perfect running partner. The video of her running beside her son near Manor, in Thane district, went viral after it was shared on Facebook.

This is not the first time that the former professor has surprised us with her physical strength. Even in 2014 she participated in a marathon where she ran 100 kilometres in less than 48 hours.

In an earlier interview, Soman had said, "I give credit to my mom for inspiring and encouraging me to take sports seriously. She was a professor of bio-chemistry and at the age of 60 when she retired she started trekking."

The two-week long marathon will end on Thursday, 4 August, in Mumbai.

Meanwhile Milind Soman has some pleasant news for women runners. He is in the process of launching running sarees for women who do not feel comfortable running in conventional sports wear.

In an interview to The Times of India he said, "Most Indian women are not comfortable running in conventional shorts. So, we want to give them a special sari, which is lighter and has less volume of cloth, so that they can feel comfortable running while wearing it."

Looks like Usha Soman is the inspiration behind this innovation.
