The couple was vacationing in Goa to celebrate Gupta's birthday. Khanna posted a picture of the ring Gupta gave her while proposing to Instagram, with the caption, "I am yours and you are mine From today, till the end of time!! #itsofficial".

Khanna told entertainment portal Tellychakkar, "We are here in Goa to celebrate Gautam’s birthday, and he just swept me off my feet with this lovely surprise. We started dating after Meri Aashiqui got over and I think its magical how we connected and found love. Our families are really excited and it is an amazing feeling."

Khanna and Gupta have played a couple onscreen as well. In Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi, Khanna played Ritika Ranveer Vaghela and Gupta essayed the role of Sharman Mitesh Parekh. Their characters were engaged in the show.

The show ended in 2016 and the actors began dating soon after. When asked about marriage, Khanna said that she and Gupta have not really spoken about it. She mentioned that it has been on their minds since they have been in a committed relationship for some time. She added that once the couple is back, they will discuss it with their parents and announce a date soon.

Since Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi ended, Khanna has essayed the roles of Vandana in Balika Vadhu and Malaika in Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki, while Gupta played Madhavan in Kuch Toh Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan.
