Keegan-Michael Key, popularly known as Key from the comedian duo Kee and Peele, made a dramatic entry alongside US president Barack Obama at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech on Saturday. [caption id=“attachment_2214486” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Screengrab from the video.[/caption] Playing Obama’s anger translator, Luther, portrayed by a sharp looking Key, provided a comic, dramatic foil to Obama’s diplomatic speech. While Obama said, “In our fast-changing world, traditions like the White House correspondents’ dinner are important,” Key, who was standing beside him like a shadow, responded with, “I mean really, what is this dinner and why I am required to come to it?” This is how the entire 5 minute speech video excerpt flows. What is “key” to notice is Obama’s deadpan face as Key performs his skit, revealing once more, that Obama has a killer sense of humour. Sample this excerpt from the conversation: Obama: “Because despite our differences, we count on the press to shed light.” Luther: “And we can count on Fox News to terrify all white people with some nonsense.” Watch the excerpt of the Correspondents’ dinner here:
Key and Peele’s comedy sketch on Obama, which broadcasts on Comedy Central, is extremely popular, and according to this Washington Post article, Obama reached out to them after watching one of them: ““I need Luther,” Obama had said, according to this New Yorker profile on the comedian duo. During the dinner, Luther ended up saying many “angry” things, while Obama just stood in front and watched him blow his lid. Speaking on CNN’s Ebola coverage, he said, “For two whole weeks, we were one step away from The Walking Dead — and then you all got up and just moved on to the next thing.” Here’s one of the many Obama and Luther sketches:
He also compared Hillary Clinton to Khaleesi on Game of Thrones, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The video has gone viral on Facebook and has over 2 million views on Youtube.
