Ahead of the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/festive Resort edition, Manish Malhotra took to the ramp to give us a preview of his latest collection, ‘Tales Of Indulgence’. The designer has surprised fans by presenting suits for men and cocktail dresses for women this time around, moving away from his usual Indian style lehengas.

At the NEXA preview show held on Wednesday in Mumbai, the designer showcased his new range monochrome suits for men, dominated by tassels and quirky bows. Meanwhile the woman flaunted their shimmery range of cocktail dresses.

Manish Malhotra gave an edgy start to the fashion week and expressed his excitement in exploring men's suits with this collection - one that Malhotra himself admits will be dominated by pearls and silhouettes.

In a conversation with Firstpost, the designer expressed his love for off shoulders, the reason behind 'Tales of Indulgence', his upcoming films and more.

Why did you opt for suits and cocktail outfits, and not lehengas this year?

The bride is changing, the bridegroom is changing. They are Indian at heart, they love the Indian wedding but they are also influenced by social media. We started with gowns and they did very well for us. Also the bride wants to wear something very different for her Mehendi, for the wedding day and all of that. Maybe the first wedding dinner or the cocktail outfit is now becoming a dress. Bridegrooms don't want to wear a Sherwani all the time. I think that's the changing trend.

For me, I am a restless soul, I love getting that diversity as a designer, as a label, as a person and I am pushing myself to do a lot more silhouettes. This collection has lot of funky sarees, and new kinds of skirt lehengas. That is the idea, to introduce a new kind of bandwidth of Manish Malhotra.

I feel like I am indulging myself with the 'Tales of Indulgence' collection. I love off shoulders and drop shoulders. But I make sure all my designs have that Indian touch in them.

You are closing for Lakme fashion week after a while. Any hints on who the show stopper will be? Any favourites?

This is not the finale show but it will be a closing show. And this is the first something like this is happening. I’ve been around for every ‘first’ that Lakme has had.

It would be unfair for me to pick up one favourite. Because they all have done it with so much heart, like Alia Bhatt recently and even Ranveer Singh at Delhi. So you have to wait and see who the show stopper is.

What are the movies you are currently working on?

I am working on a period film starring Varun and Alia, Sanjay Dutt, Sridevi, Aditya Roy Kapur, so that's a big cast. And then there is Student of the Year 2. I also just finish with Judwaa 2 for Jacqueline Fernandez.
