Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi song 'Bharat' is an ode to Rani Lakshmibai's selfless patriotism
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi's new song 'Bharat' depicts the gradual shift from Lakshmibai's carefree, innocent princess to a warrior queen. With generous doses of patriotic fervour, 'Bharat' has been crooned by veteran Shankar Mahadevan while Prasoon Joshi has penned the lyrics. Kangana Ranaut's seamless portrayal of Lakshmibai's vulnerability juxtaposed with the queen's portrayal of sheer courage, is quite on-point and commendable.
'Bharat' traces Manikarnika's journey right from the time she was a child, sincerely learning how to wield the sword to the phase when she fearlessly defended her state against the British. The song has a soothing melody, which is generously coupled by Naveen Kumar's deft skills on the flute. Composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, 'Bharat' is an ode to the country.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is based on the Indian rebellion of 1857 against the British 'Raj'. While Kangana portrays the heroic queen Lakshmibai, Jisshu Sengupta plays her husband and the ruler of Jhansi. The Queen star stepped into the film's original director Krish's shoes after he departed the project due to what has been blamed on scheduling conflicts and creative differences.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is set to hit theatres on 25 January. Watch the song here.
