Mallika Sherawat invited to participate in Oxford Union debate

Oxford Union (of the Oxford University), which is one of the world's most prestigious debating societies has invited Mallika Sherawat to participate in a debate on the topic 'This House Believes Gender Exists to Oppress'.

Indian Express reported that the debate will take place on 27 February. The actress spoke to the newspaper and confirmed that she will be attending the event: "... It’s a great honour. I come from a small town so it means a lot to be invited to speak at such a historic venue..." said Sherawat.

DNA quoted a press release of Oxford Union in which they revealed the reason for inviting Mallika Sherawat as one of the participants. “We feel that as a figure, who recently was very outspoken about the image of women and women’s rights in a country like India, Mallika would lend an interesting angle to the debate.” said the press release.

Founded in 1823, the Oxford Union is one of world's most prestigious debating societies and has hosted personalities like Mother Theresa and Dalai Lama.
