Mahavatar Narsimha movie review: The mythological animation spectacle is an entertaining affair to teach Gen Z & kids about Lord Vishnu's most fierce avatar

While the young generation, including kids and Gen Z of the country, have been showing their inclination towards the western culture (which is not bad or offensive), it is heartening to see director Ashwin Kumar making an effort to show the Indian culture and fierce avatars of Lord Vishnu in an entertaining way through animation.

The movie starts with Maharishi Kashyap doing Sandhya Pooja in the evening when his wife Diti insists him to mate with her as she desires to be a mother. While Maharishi suggests that doing this action in the evening is considered inauspicious as per Vedas and Puranas, as negative and demon souls roam during this time and take shelter in the womb.

However, Kashyap fails to convince her, and they mate during that night. The next morning, he is furious with Diti as he realises that she will give birth to two powerful demons named Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu.

The story narrates how two avatars of Lord Vishnu - Lord Varaha and Lord Narsimha arrive to kill these two demon brothers, who show their cruelty, injustice, and tyranny towards the people of Earth along with demigods of heaven.

Mahavtar Narsimha also narrates the beautiful story of a young 5-year-old child of Hiranyakashipu named Prahlad, one of the greatest devotees of Lord Vishnu, who remains fearless of his father’s oppression and makes several attempts to make Hiranyakashipu understand his wrongdoings.

Director Ashwin Kumar deserves accolades for bringing one of the golden parts of our Indian history, which not only speaks about our gods but also sheds light on devotion and important parts of our festivals and celebrations, like Holika Dahan.

In the time of larger-than-life action spectacles and rom-coms, experiencing a movie like Mahavatar Narsimha definitely evokes different kinds of positive and holistic emotions.
