Actress Bharati Perwani, who portrayed Ram Pyaari’s character in The Great Indian Family, recently opened up about working in the film. The Chhapaak star spoke extensively about gearing up for her character. According to ETimes, the actress who has been part of several short films, exuded ‘overjoyed’ emotions at receiving her first call from Yashraj Films. She further added that the production company informed her that the role was a primary character and asked her to take audition.
On receiving a call from Yashraj Films
Bharati Perwani, on receiving a call from Yashraj films, stated that she informed them about sending her audition as soon as she had time. The reason behind the move was that she was leaving for a theater production that day.
In a matter of days, she discussed the same with her friends and they encouraged her to apply for it. She added, “After a few days, I discussed the opportunity with my friends, who encouraged me to go for it as it was a very good one.”
Talking about submitting her audition, the actress added that “upon my arrival in Mumbai, I received a call informing me that I had been selected for the role in a single round of auditions.”
On her character in the film
Speaking about her character Ram Pyaari, the Bhonsle actress added, “My character’s name is Ram Pyaari, a significant member of the family in the film.” Shedding further light, she asserted that her doting character “takes care of everyone and holds the house together.” She is known to be a woman of “strong opinions and perspectives.”
The Great Indian Family being a film about diversity and progressive families, her presence in every frame is particularly fitting and relatable to the subject matter. Although she’s the only character not directly related to the family, she is a vital member because she grew up with them.
The actress was initially ’nervous’ about portraying Ram Pyaari in an entirely different light. She also learned the UP, Bihari dialects and accents while paying attention to even the smallest details. Not just this, Bharati Perwani is right handed, but she had to portray Ram Pyaari who is left handed. “So I wanted to do full justice to the character and be very precise about the minute details of it,” she stated.
Working alongside notable and seasoned actors
Bharati Perwani called her working experience alongside notable and seasoned actors in the film ‘phenomenal’. Naming the film’s star cast including Vicky Kaushal, Manushi Chhillar, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa and Yashpal Sharma, she admitted she was ‘a little nervous to meet such stalwarts of the industry for the narration’. She further added, “It actually felt like a real family as everyone ate and chilled together.” With this cast, they lived ’like a true family each day eating and sharing together’.
Work Front
Work wise, Bharati Perwani is best known for her role in Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak, Dharma’s Bhoot: Part One - The Haunted Ship, Devashish Makhija’s Bhonsle and her META award winning play, Hunkaro.
Helmed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Rai banner, The Great Indian Family was released theatrically on 22 September.
