Oscar-winning actor Laura Dern is set to headline a new limited series based on the investigation into disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, with the project currently in development at Sony Pictures Television.
What is the series about?
The upcoming show is based on the book Perversion of Justice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story by journalist Julie K. Brown.
It will chronicle Brown’s years-long investigation that exposed Epstein’s crimes and a controversial 2008 plea deal that allowed him to avoid harsher punishment. Described as an “explosive account,” the series will follow how Brown identified dozens of victims, convinced survivors to speak out, and helped bring renewed legal scrutiny to the case.
According to a report in Deadline, the event series will draw from Brown’s experience as a groundbreaking reporter for the Miami Herald. The book and the limited series follow her relentless years-long investigation that identified 80 victims, persuaded key survivors to go on the record, and led to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrests.
Laura Dern’s role
Laura Dern will portray Julie K. Brown, the Miami Herald reporter whose reporting played a pivotal role in reopening the Epstein case. Her work ultimately contributed to the arrests of Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and triggered wider political fallout in the United States.
Who is backing the project?
The series is being developed by Sony Pictures Television, with filmmaker Adam McKay attached as an executive producer.
Writers Sharon Hoffman and Eileen Myers will serve as co-showrunners, while Dern and Brown are also onboard as executive producers.
Current status
The project is still in development and is reportedly being pitched to networks and streaming platforms, with no official release date or platform confirmed yet. With Laura Dern leading the cast and a story rooted in one of the most high-profile investigations of recent times, the series is shaping up to be a gripping, journalist-driven drama. It could become one of the most talked-about true-crime adaptations in the pipeline.
