MTV Video Music Awards mixed serious social message with its glitz and glamour this year and turned the spotlight from Nicki Minaj's snakes, Iggy Azalea and Ariana Grande's performances to the conflict torn town of Ferguson, Missouri. The channel showed a tribute video of the town during the award ceremony. Ferguson came to limelight after 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot by police officer Darren Wilson in what seems like a case of racial discrimination.

However, while the tribute video was being aired at the VMA's, the three Kardashian-Jenner sisters — Kim, Kylie and Kendall did what they do best — stared at their phones.

As the camera moved from the Ferguson tribute video to the audience— Kim, Kylie and Kendall were seen texting instead of watching the video— this triggered a social media outrage as tweeple slammed the Kardashian and jenners online.

While some said that it is characteristic of the reality stars to be obsessed with themselves instead of bothering about a strife torn city that is battling racial discrimination, others speculated that the reality stars didn't know anything about Ferguson and were therefore googling it up.

Whatever the reason may be, the tweeple are not happy that the Kardashians behaved, well, like Kardashians generally do.

The Ferguson spot at the VMA's was a part of their Look Different campaign. Two videos were aired during the tribute. The first one had a chorus that said: Hands Up Don’t Shoot, and began with a powerful quote by James Baldwin, that said: Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced.

In the second video we see young people from different backgrounds with glass shattering on their faces. A voice over describes all the  stereotypes they encounter on a daily basis.
